Double-layered Breathing Curtain Wall

The double-layered breathing curtain wall features excellent insulation, solar-shading capacity, sound insulation and natural ventilation. It creates a tranquil and highly comfortable space to the keep the residents inside from the clamors outside. A corridor buffer zone exists between the two layers of the curtain wall, with air supply and exhuast systems located at the top and bottom. This system works like human lungs.

It introduces natural air ventilation for the building. In-between the two layers of the curtain wall locate a vertical solar-shading system tailor-made for this project - a revolving side-closing louver system. With great flexibility for adjustments, the system can meet the residents' diverse needs for the daylight. In summer, it can reflect the sunlight, absorb 97% of the heat generated by the solar radiation, and take the heat away through the natural ventilation. In winter, the double-layered curtain wall can provide excellent heat insulation and save over 45% energy consumption needed for heating.

In the meantime, the double-layered curtain wall delivers effective sound insulation from various sound sources and provides a much better sound environment for the residents. The system can also fully utilize the solar energy, increase the effectiveness for energy-saving and environment protection, and turn everyday living into an enjoyable and royal experience for high technologies.

The first to adopt the double-layered breathing curtain wall is the headquarter building of RWE, the biggest energy and power corporation in Germany. By adopting the double-layered curtain wall, RWE conveys to the world its dedication to environmental protection, and shows the inventive integration of the building industry and the high-technologies, thus reshaping the creative image of architecture design.

The Water Source Heat-Pump

This heat pump uses the 100-meter deep underground water. It will consume 30% less electricity than the air-source heat pump, and 70% less electricity than the electricity heating. According to an estimate by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States, a properly-designed and installed water-source heat pump can save the consumers 30-40% air-conditioning fees.

The Steel Structure

Usually used only for large-scale public buildings. It can increase the efficiency by 5%. Compared with the commonly used reinforced-concrete structure for residential buildings, the steel structure features better resistance to earthquakes. But steel structure is rarely used for residnetial buildings due to the higher costs and stricter requirements for construction allowances. Steel structure porvides 5% higher efficiency than the reinforced-concrete structure, thus increasing the actual usable areas for the residents.

The steel-frame structure features steel-tube concrete columns and composite floor structure of closed-profile metal decks with 110mm-thick concrete topping, which provides very good sound insulation. Steel-frame structure does not have irremovable shear walls. Therefore the rooms have more flexibility to be reshaped and rearranged to realize endless creativity.
